I imagined if I felt this way, many people may also be struggling with the same frustration. So, I decided to refine and define my style and share how I did it.
Remember, this is MY list. Make a list of words you wished describe the atmosphere of YOUR home.
-Chic** -Romantic** (who knew?)
-Warm*** -A Living Gallery
Ok. So at least I'm on the right path!!
-Gilt -Stacks of old books
-Live Plants -Chandeliers/Ornate lighting
-Heavy Draperies -Architectural Columns
-Velvet (big surprise, I know) -Lots of accessorizing
-Vintage Luggage/Trunks -Button-tufted furniture
-Mannequins -Full/Gallery walls
Hmmm...kind of Old World Traveler style??? Ok. I can do that. I have a few of those things!
So, I got started. First thing I did was evict my coffee table and replace it with a vintage trunk.
I placed them around and promptly realized I needed about 10 more! Oh well. Baby steps!
She loves it up there!
I, carefully, set a birdcage (also from the list) on it along with a couple other things.
Fringe, fringe, and more FRINGE!
I have books everywhere, but I made a large stack for this sweet cherub to rest on. This, of course, was the perfect place to lean a Victorian parasol.
I hope this helps you to define your home's personality. Don't let my bold, eclectic style scare you! I'm old enough to not care what others think, and young enough (just barely) to pull it off without being the crazy old lady down the street! These lists, notes and changes were made over a 3 week period. I took my time and made these changes thoughtfully.
Remember, at the end of the day, it's YOUR home, it should please you! Have fun and I hope when you're done, your home makes you SMILE!
